Bergen County has over 929,000 residents, more registered vehicles than any other county in New Jersey, and roads that consistently rank among the state’s most dangerous. In 2024 alone, 18 people died in Bergen County car crashes — and that number climbed to at least 24 fatal crashes through October 2025, according to the New Jersey State Police Fatal Accident Investigation Unit.
If you were injured by another driver in Bergen County, you have the right to pursue full compensation for your medical bills, lost income, and pain and suffering. The question is whether the attorney you choose has the local knowledge, the courtroom experience, and the commitment to actually fight for what you deserve.
At the Law Offices of Raffi T. Khorozian P.C., we have represented Bergen County accident victims since 1993. We know these roads. We know the Bergen County Superior Court. And we charge only 25% of your net recovery — not the 33⅓% that most firms take.

Bergen County’s combination of dense commuter traffic, aging road infrastructure, and high-speed arterial highways creates conditions that produce thousands of crashes every year.
The most dangerous corridors in the county include:
Route 4 — A primary east-west connector between Paramus and Fort Lee that sees constant commercial and commuter traffic. The stretch near the George Washington Bridge approach is among the most congested in the state, with frequent rear-end and sideswipe collisions during rush hour.
Route 17 — Running through Paramus, Rochelle Park, and Ramsey, Route 17 has been identified by the Tri-State Transportation Campaign as one of Bergen County’s deadliest roads for both drivers and pedestrians. Multiple access points, shifting lane configurations, and heavy retail traffic make this corridor especially hazardous.
I-95 / New Jersey Turnpike (Fort Lee approaches) — The interchange near Exit 18 in Fort Lee handles some of the highest traffic volumes in the entire northeastern United States. Multi-vehicle crashes, merging collisions, and accidents involving commercial trucks are common, particularly during morning and evening peak hours.
Route 46 (through Elmwood Park, Lodi, and Saddle Brook) — A surface highway with numerous driveways, intersections, and pedestrian crossings that generate rear-end crashes and angle collisions throughout the day.
Garden State Parkway (Bergen County segment) — High-speed merging, lane changes, and limited sight lines contribute to significant accident frequency on this corridor.
Beyond highway crashes, Bergen County’s downtown areas — particularly Hackensack, Fort Lee, and Paramus — see frequent intersection accidents at high-volume crossings. Distracted driving, failure to yield, and running red lights are leading causes.
The injuries our Bergen County clients most frequently experience include:
Many of the most serious injuries are not immediately apparent. This is why seeking medical attention on the same day as the accident — even if you feel relatively stable — is critical both for your health and for the strength of any future legal claim.
New Jersey is a no-fault insurance state, which means that after most car accidents, your own Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage pays your initial medical expenses regardless of who caused the crash. However, when injuries are serious — involving significant scarring, displaced fractures, permanent limitation of a body function, or substantial medical bills — you have the right to step outside the no-fault system and file a claim or lawsuit directly against the at-fault driver.
The modified comparative negligence rule is another critical factor. Under New Jersey law, if you are found to be partially responsible for the accident, your compensation is reduced by your percentage of fault. If you are found to be more than 50% at fault, you recover nothing. Insurance companies are skilled at using this rule to shift blame onto injured victims — which is precisely why having experienced legal representation matters.
The statute of limitations for personal injury claims in New Jersey is two years from the date of the accident. Missing this deadline eliminates your right to pursue compensation, regardless of how serious your injuries are. Acting promptly protects your claim and preserves critical evidence.
Cases in Bergen County are handled by the Bergen County Superior Court, Law Division, located in Hackensack. Attorney Raffi T. Khorozian has appeared before Bergen County courts for over 30 years and understands the local judges, procedures, and litigation landscape.
A successful Bergen County car accident claim can include compensation for both economic and non-economic losses:
Economic damages (documented financial losses):
Non-economic damages (losses that don’t come with a bill):
New Jersey does not cap pain and suffering damages in car accident cases, which means the full extent of your suffering — supported by medical records, testimony, and documentation — can be pursued in your claim.
Since 1993, Raffi T. Khorozian has dedicated his practice exclusively to representing innocent accident victims across New Jersey. Bergen County clients benefit from:
30+ years of New Jersey personal injury experience — including hundreds of Bergen County cases involving Route 4, Route 17, I-95, and local intersection crashes.
Deep knowledge of Bergen County courts and procedures — cases are handled locally, with direct attorney involvement from intake through resolution.
A proven record of results — thousands of New Jersey accident victims represented, with settlements and verdicts covering the full range of injuries from soft tissue trauma to catastrophic brain and spinal injuries.
The 25% fee difference — Most New Jersey personal injury attorneys charge 33⅓% of your recovery. We charge 25%. On a $150,000 settlement, that difference means $12,500 more in your pocket. On a $300,000 recovery, you keep $25,000 more. When you’ve already been injured through no fault of your own, keeping more of your compensation matters.
No upfront costs, no fees unless we win — We advance all case costs. You pay nothing unless and until we recover compensation for you.
Flexible consultations — Free consultations by phone, at any of our 5 Bergen County office locations, or at your home or hospital if your injuries prevent travel.
The steps you take in the hours and days following a Bergen County car accident have a direct impact on the strength of your claim.

Insurance adjusters from the at-fault driver’s insurer are trained to minimize payouts. They may contact you quickly — sometimes within days — with a settlement offer that sounds reasonable but fails to account for future medical treatment, long-term disability, or the full value of your pain and suffering. Accepting an early offer before you understand the full extent of your injuries is one of the most costly mistakes Bergen County accident victims make.
We maintain 5 office locations throughout Bergen County for the convenience of local clients. If your injuries prevent you from traveling, we will come to your home or hospital room at no charge.

How long do I have to file a car accident claim in Bergen County?
In New Jersey, the statute of limitations for personal injury claims is two years from the date of the accident. For property damage claims, the limit is six years. Missing the two-year deadline for personal injury will permanently bar you from pursuing compensation, regardless of how serious your injuries are. If the accident involved a government vehicle or a public entity (such as a NJ Transit bus or a municipality), the notice requirement is much shorter — in some cases as little as 90 days. Contact an attorney as soon as possible to protect your rights.
What if the other driver was uninsured?
New Jersey law requires drivers to carry Uninsured Motorist (UM) coverage, which protects you if the at-fault driver has no insurance. If the other driver’s insurance is insufficient to cover your losses, Underinsured Motorist (UIM) coverage can make up the difference. Our attorneys handle both UM and UIM claims and will identify every available source of compensation.
Can I still recover compensation if I was partly at fault?
Yes, under New Jersey’s modified comparative negligence law, you can recover compensation even if you were partially at fault — as long as your share of fault does not exceed 50%. Your recovery will be reduced by your percentage of fault. For example, if you were 20% at fault and your damages total $100,000, you would recover $80,000. Insurance companies frequently attempt to exaggerate a victim’s fault percentage to reduce the payout. An experienced attorney will challenge those assignments and protect your recovery.
How long does a Bergen County car accident case typically take?
The timeline varies significantly based on injury severity, the complexity of the liability question, and how the insurance company responds. Cases that settle without litigation can resolve in 6 to 18 months. Cases that require filing a lawsuit in Bergen County Superior Court typically take longer — often 18 months to 3 years depending on court scheduling and the complexity of the case. More serious injuries with long-term treatment needs generally take longer to resolve because it is important to fully understand the extent of your injuries before settling.
What does “no fee unless we win” actually mean?
It means we charge nothing for our legal services unless and until we recover compensation for you. We also advance all case costs — medical record requests, expert fees, filing fees, and other litigation expenses — on your behalf. If we do not recover, you owe nothing. Our fee is 25% of your net recovery (after case costs), compared to the 33⅓% charged by most New Jersey firms.
Should I accept the insurance company’s first settlement offer?
Almost always, no. Initial settlement offers from insurance companies are typically designed to close the claim quickly before the full extent of injuries is known. Once you accept a settlement and sign a release, you permanently waive your right to seek additional compensation — even if you later discover that your injuries are more serious than initially apparent. Before accepting any offer, consult with an attorney to ensure the amount reflects your actual medical costs, lost wages, pain and suffering, and any future treatment needs.
You don’t have to figure this out alone. Whether your accident happened on Route 4 in Fort Lee, at an intersection in Hackensack, on Route 17 in Paramus, or anywhere else in Bergen County, Attorney Raffi T. Khorozian is ready to review your case at no cost and no obligation.
